Plato once said that lack of physical activity deteriorates fitness and health, while movement and systematic exercise preserve it.
Therefore, consider it a positive sign when, prompted by concerning symptoms, you visit a doctor and receive a life-changing prescription: the mandate to exercise regularly. Despite the simplicity and clarity of such advice, many still neglect their health.
Often, people only consider their chronological age—the number of birthdays celebrated. However, concepts like "health age" or "biological age" are gaining prominence. Chronological age is merely a number, while biological age represents our actual health state, which for many, is older than their chronological age. A simple test involves standing on your weaker leg with eyes closed and trying to maintain balance without support. For instance, a good result for someone in their 20s is 30 seconds, and for those in their 50s, it's 10 seconds. Unfortunately, most people perform poorly on this test, which also highlights issues like excessive visceral fat and overall fitness.
Subpar test results suggest that our biological age exceeds our chronological one, indicating accelerated aging. Yet, many fail to address this issue properly, focusing more on aesthetics than on health. Consider the disparity between the time we spend on dental hygiene versus cardiovascular health. We maintain our teeth to preserve our appearance, but the health of our heart is far more crucial. Despite knowing the importance of health, our actions often do not align with this priority. Simple lifestyle changes could prevent 40% of cancers and 75% of diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. Yet, in places like the UK, a staggering 65% of the population is overweight or obese due to inactivity and poor dietary choices. Globally, over 1.4 billion adults engage in insufficient physical activity, especially in developed nations.
As someone tied to a desk by work, I understand the challenge. I am Stanislaw Szultka, the owner of TYTAX Factory. For the past 25 years, I have dedicated myself to developing and enhancing our equipment. Despite the demands of managing and expanding the business, I maintain excellent physical health and condition even past the age of 60. My routine includes regular, efficient workouts with equipment designed to engage various muscle groups effectively. Five days a week, my wife and I motivate each other to maintain our physical and mental fitness, ensuring we age better than our years might suggest.
It's perplexing that while many invest in their homes, cars, or businesses, they neglect their health. In prioritizing the various aspects of our lives, health should come first. Yet, there is often a misguided reliance on medicine to fix health issues that could be prevented through better lifestyle choices.
